DRONE DATA PROCESSING

Image
Doing some drone data processing tonight and thought I would share a little snippet of what a densely reconstructed point cloud looks like from a flight that contained just over 300 images. The concept of working on drone data has recently made waves in the geospatial sector, professionals have realized the reliability and cost-effectiveness of data collected using an unmanned aerial vehicle in a safe manner. Land surveyors, in particular, are getting exposed to more options that an unmanned drone is providing them. Having said all that, a major factor of effectively using data collected by a drone is processing it efficiently. Gathering data using drone might just take a flight but processing it and making it actionable is yet another story. Drone data is processed using the technique called Digital Photogrammetry. The word photogrammetry is derived from: photo — meaning “picture”, and grammetry — meaning “measurement”. It is a science of obtaining measurements such as leng...

THE IMPORTANCE OF LAND SURVEYORS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Image
The Importance of Land Surveyors in Civil Engineering Surveyors are an enigma to many people, but they are commonly seen all over the country. It’s likely you’ve seen them while driving through your hometown, out on vacation, or when headed to work. They are kind of hard to miss; they have a camera, tripod, and other equipment with them to survey a piece of land they’ve been assigned. If you’ve always wondered about what it is they do and their importance in civil engineering, wonder no more. Prevent Chaos in a Chaotic World Surveyors help to prevent chaos in a chaotic world. If surveyors weren’t able to efficiently perform their job duties, or we didn’t have the profession, civil engineering would not be as detailed as it is today. Surveyors help to survey the land that all of the following are constructed on: Dams Tunnels Bridges Highways Railways Irrigation Ports Airfields Sewer lines Reservoirs Charting of streamlines, coasts, and waterways Oceanographic charti...

TARATIBU NA KANUNI ZA UPIMAJI ARDHI

Image
JE UNAHITAJI KUPIMIWA ARDHI MJINI, FUATA UTARATIBU HUU. 1.  NYARAKA ZINAZOHITAJIKA ILI UPIMIWE ARDHI. Bar...

3D Laser Scanning 3D Laser Scanners or ScanStation are used for a wide range of High Definition Surveying HDS applications either alongside traditional survey instruments or as an alternative to Total Stations. Using 3D Laser Scanning instruments the surveyor can rapidly collect a large amount of accurate co-ordinated three dimensional 3D laser points from the surface of remote feature as a ‘point cloud’ image, providing rapid surveying solutions for inaccessible elements and complex geometrical detail. When the 3D Scanner has scanned a structure or site to create a precise high definition survey image it is then processed with visualisation and modelling software to represent the surface surveyed. The data from the scanned image can then be used for a wide variety of applications including exporting to CAD in 2D or 3D models in wire frame or to other rendering software packages. This type of surveying technology allows the surveyor to capture and use large volumes ...
